Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
One of the initial significant hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the battle against Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for victory.
Phase 1: A Solo Showdown
This phase is a one-on-one duel in a spacious wasteland. Zhang Jiao utilizes sorcery, launching stones across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance:
- Close Range: Four stones are summoned, demanding swift evasion.
- Long Range: Eight stones are launched in pairs, easily dodged by circling him.
Maintain a safe distance when he summons numerous stones to avoid heavy damage. While primarily a ranged attacker, he employs close-range combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A white glow signals his AOE charge; evade accordingly.
Later, he unleashes unblockable attacks (red aura), including massive rockfalls and clone summoning. The best approach is to maintain distance until the attacks conclude. Equip a sword for optimal damage output.
Resource Management is Crucial: You likely have limited healing opportunities (around four uses depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are located near the arena entrance; utilize them strategically during recovery periods.
Phase 2: Aided Assault
Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, introducing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army arrives to assist, providing respite and healing opportunities (grab those meat buns!). Zhang Jiao introduces tornadoes; be mindful of the wind to avoid being thrown off balance.
Defeating sufficient soldiers triggers Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic: eliminating 300 soldiers within a short timeframe. Failure results in a devastating attack. He also summons lightning strikes indicated by a closing ring; evade when the ring flashes. Musou Mode (standard, not Rage) is efficient for clearing soldiers quickly.
Successfully thwarting the Grand Tactic twice brings Zhang Jiao back to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, depleting his remaining health should be relatively straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.
Victory Achieved!
By following these strategies, you'll successfully defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
