Firaxis Games Delays Civilization 7's Inaugural In-Game Event
Civilization 7 Focuses on Quality-of-Life Enhancements

Firaxis Games announced on February 28, 2025, a shift in priorities for Civilization 7 (Civ 7). The game's initial in-game event, originally slated for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, 2025, has been postponed. This decision allows the developers to concentrate on implementing much-needed quality-of-life improvements across all platforms (PC and consoles; Nintendo Switch release timing differs). The official statement reads: "Although our first in-game Event*, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Mixed player feedback since early access, particularly concerning the user interface (UI), prompted this change. Firaxis acknowledges these concerns, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI," and reiterating their commitment to ongoing improvements.
Update 1.1.0 Addresses Community Feedback

Update 1.1.0, launching March 4, 2025, directly addresses community feedback. While full patch notes will be released closer to launch, key improvements include: the addition of a new, free natural wonder—the Bermuda Triangle; significant UI adjustments; substantial changes to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions, particularly enhancing AI performance in achieving Cultural Victories. The first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will also be released alongside this update, automatically granted to players who own qualifying editions or have purchased the collection separately.
Next Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025

Further UI enhancements are planned for the next major update, scheduled for March 25, 2025 (subject to change). Firaxis emphasizes that this is part of a larger, multi-month plan to refine the UI. Beyond March, additional improvements are in the works, including a "one more turn" feature extending gameplay past the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and multiplayer enhancements. The team notes, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
