Mastering Avowed: A Beginner's Guide to Obsidian's Latest RPG
Obsidian's Avowed offers a compelling RPG experience, blending elements appealing to both seasoned veterans and newcomers. However, RPGs can feel daunting for first-timers. This guide provides essential tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey.
Avowed, like many RPGs, uses an experience point (XP) system. XP is earned through quests, combat, exploration, and more. Leveling up grants attribute and ability points, allowing you to customize your character's strengths. Become a formidable warrior, a powerful mage, or something in between – the choice is yours.
Attributes determine your character's capabilities. Experiment! Fortunately, Avowed lets you respec your points, making it incredibly beginner-friendly.
While not entirely open-world, Avowed offers significant non-linearity. While main story objectives are marked, resist the urge to solely follow the path. Exploration is key!
Delve into buildings, caves, and diverse locations to uncover loot, resources, and a wealth of side quests. Many side quests offer easy XP gains. Books and notes enrich the narrative, providing valuable lore. Seek out treasure maps for unique gear and gold. Thorough exploration also yields substantial gold, crucial for acquiring better weapons and gear, significantly impacting combat effectiveness, especially against challenging bosses. Rushing the main story might leave you underprepared.
Early combat can be challenging. Balance physical and essence attacks, and monitor your health and essence. Prioritize health and essence potions, readily found throughout the world and sold by vendors. Health potions glow red, essence potions pink.
However, conserve health potions. Use food to replenish minor health losses; some food items also counteract status effects like poison. Only resort to potions when health is critically low.
Leveling up provides skill and attribute points. Remember to invest in your companions! Neglecting their upgrades can lead to significant difficulties and potential restarts. Strong companions provide valuable combat support, including healing capabilities.
Gather resources to upgrade weapons and gear at the camp's crafting station (located to the left upon entering). Focus upgrades on gear you plan to use for a while, as early-game weapon changes are frequent. Upgrades enhance attack power, critical hit chance, and defense.
Avowed is about immersion. Whether you focus on the main story or explore every nook and cranny, create your own narrative. Enjoy the Living Lands at your own pace.
