A fraudulent Baldur's Gate 3 mobile port has surfaced on the iOS App Store, prompting a warning to players. This deceptive app, masquerading as a legitimate mobile version, is free initially but demands a hefty $29.99 monthly subscription fee. Crucially, there is no official mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3.
The fake app employs modified screenshots from the original game, overlaying a fabricated mobile HUD to enhance its deceptive appearance. However, inconsistencies such as the omission of Larian Studios' name and the game's Dungeons & Dragons origins immediately reveal its fraudulent nature. The app is listed under the suspicious title "Baldurs [sic] Gate 3 - Mobile Turuk," developed by "Dmytro Turuk."
Data Theft Concerns:
While visually obvious to many, the app's free initial download might lure unsuspecting players. The exorbitant monthly fee is only revealed after installation, but the app's terms of service raise serious concerns about data collection. It explicitly states the app records user IP addresses and potentially other personal information. This isn't an isolated incident; similar Baldur's Gate 3 rip-offs have appeared before.
Currently, this specific scam app doesn't appear on the Android store, but vigilance is advised on both platforms. Players should exercise caution with any app promising an unrealistically good deal, particularly if it lacks official confirmation. Larian Studios hasn't announced plans for a mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3, although earlier installments in the series are available on mobile platforms. Alternatively, Baldur's Gate 3 can be streamed via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Anyone who downloaded the fraudulent app should remove it immediately.
