Diablo 4's Next Expansion After Vessel of Hatred Won't Come Until 2026

Mar 21,2025 Author: Gabriella

Disappointing news for Diablo IV fans eagerly anticipating a 2025 expansion. Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson revealed at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas that the next major expansion won't arrive until 2026.

While a content roadmap for Diablo IV's 2025 plans, detailing seasons and updates, is forthcoming (expected just before Season 8), the second expansion is notably absent. Fergusson explained this delay, stating that the roadmap will only cover 2025 content.

The reason for the pushback, though not explicitly detailed, hints at unforeseen challenges. Blizzard's initial plan called for annual expansions, starting with Vessel of Hatred in 2024. However, Vessel of Hatred's release was delayed, shifting from a 12-month to an 18-month post-launch window. This delay, attributed to adapting to player feedback and adjusting live content, consequently impacted the timeline for subsequent expansions, including the 2025 release. Resources were temporarily diverted from Vessel of Hatred, causing a ripple effect on the overall development schedule.

Currently, Diablo IV players are enjoying the recently launched Season of the Witchcraft, featuring new witchcraft powers, a questline, and more. The base game received a glowing 9/10 rating, praised for its exceptional endgame and progression.
