Application Description

The "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" app is a groundbreaking project aimed at preserving and promoting the traditional Tamil Nadu folk dance known as Devarattam. This initiative is dedicated to several distinguished figures in the field of Devarattam, including the retired teacher Mr. M Kumararaman, and the esteemed Kalaimamani awardees Mr. M Kannan Kumar and Mr. K Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti. Their contributions have been recognized with the prestigious Kalaimamani, Kalaimani, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards, respectively. The app is also a tribute to my guru, Mr. E Rajakamulu, and other beloved legends of Devarattam.

Devarattam, a vibrant and ancient folk dance, is traditionally performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. The dance is characterized by a series of steps ranging from 32 to 72, with the 32 steps forming the foundational moves, while the others are variations of these basic steps. Dancers showcase their skills by holding a kerchief in each hand, wearing Salangai (anklets) on each leg, and performing to the rhythmic beats of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument.

Through this app, my primary goal is to spread awareness about Devarattam and celebrate the achievements of its awardees. By digitizing this cultural treasure, we ensure that the beauty and heritage of Devarattam are accessible to a global audience, helping to preserve and perpetuate this art form for future generations.
